Words of Wisdom On Hijab – Muhammad Ali’s Dawah to his Daughter

Far More Precious Than Diamonds and Pearls:

hijab womans modesty Words of Wisdom On Hijab Muhammad Alis Dawah to his DaughterThe following piece was taken from a book Sister Hana Ali wrote in honor of her father Mohammad Ali, it refers back to an incident that took place when Muhammad Ali’s daughters arrived at his home wearing clothes that were not modest. Here is a short paragraph from the story, as told by one of his daughters:

When we finally arrived, the chauffeur escorted my younger sister, Laila, and me up to my father’s suite. As usual, he was hiding behind the door waiting to scare us. We exchanged many hugs and kisses as we could possibly give in one day.¬†

My father took a good look at us. Then he sat me down on his lap and said something that I will never forget. He looked me straight in the eyes and said, “Hana, everything that God made valuable in the world is covered and hard to get to. Where do you find diamonds? Deep down in the ground, covered and protected. Where do you find pearls? Deep down at the bottom of the ocean, covered up and protected in a beautiful shell. Where do you find gold? Way down in the mine, covered over with layers and layers of rock. You’ve got to work hard to get to them.”¬†

He looked at me with serious eyes. “Your body is sacred. You’re far more precious than diamonds and pearls, and you should be covered too.”

How beautiful a way to explain the importance & recognition for Hijab to a child, it was simple, sweet and honest as well as easy to understand. It was sincere advice given in a bite size,¬†complimenting & contemplative¬†manner. We can all take a lesson from this in some way or form. We can bare this in mind next time we see a sister that is not appropriately dressed, there are many wise and more productive ways of giving Dawah and Advice of Hidayah to people, and when we do so it most certainly shouldn’t be in an intimidating way in front of others.

Dawah especially in regards to hijab should be offered slowly but surely, baring in mind the fact that when a woman is to wear hijab, in order for her to reap all the benefits & rewards from it, she must do so from her heart, from her own will & obedience to her Creator. It’s only from the true wanting to please her Lord & want for His Love & His protection that she will most likely do it in the correct manner & attitude. And this is impossible without giving the right knowledge first or just throwing it in their face and forcing them to do so.

We hope his was just as useful & inspiring to you as it was to us insha ALLAH, please share with us your comments and pass it on to family & friends.

Wassalam alaykum

    Jazakallah!

  2. I love this kind of inspiring stories. He didn’t have to say “This is Halal, that is haram. You will go to Jahannam if you don’t wear it” etc etc. Just a beautiful example suffices to understand the whole point!
